Monday Making

I won’t be in the sewing room much this week, but I do want to get a few things done.

When I’m done here on the computer, I plan to finish quilting a charity quilt for our guild. Then I will attach the binding. That will give me two quilts to take to our April guild meeting for someone else to hand stitch the binding. I hope to be able to get one more done before the meeting.

This week I also hope to make one more Kitten block for March for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I have one made…

…but I would like to get a second red one done. The final link up for March is this coming Saturday, so I have a little time.

If I have time, I will probably put together a few more hourglass blocks. Here are the completed blocks on my Design Wall…

Other than that, I plan on working on Autumn’s Call. Here is where it stands…

I am working on the oak leaves in the middle. I really would like to get this one done and ready to quilt soon. I’m not entirely sure what the final project will be, but maybe once the embroidery is done I’ll have a better idea if it will become a wall hanging or a pillow.

Tomorrow is guild Bee day and Wednesday I will be heading to a quilt show. I am looking forward to that! Hubby is off on Friday, and we may do some more RV shopping, so I don’t know how much I will accomplish at the end of the week. Looking back at the beginning of March, I see that I had lots of wonderful plans for the sewing room; however, I can count what I accomplished on a couple of fingers 😊 Oh, well. I will probably let April be a little more open since it will be time to start the garden, but hopefully some of those items on my March list will get done in April.

That’s it from here. I hope you all have a fun week!

Friday Finishes

First off, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! For those who like to go out and celebrate, have a fun and safe day. For those who don’t (like me), you might just wear a bit of green today 😊

I have one mini finish this week. I made a pillow yesterday for the Project Quilting Challenge. The post is right here and below is the pillow I made for it…

I also made some additional hourglass blocks that I will be putting into a quilt…

I don’t know how big this quilt will end up. It probably depends on when I get tired of making the blocks.

And since Easter is coming up, Here’s a little crochet bunny for you…

He’s a bit wonky, but then, all of my crochet turns out a bit wonky. This is only half of a bunny. I need to make another of these, then sew on eyes and a nose, then stitch the sides together and stuff him. Maybe I’ll show him off when (if!) I get to making the other side.

The only other sewing work this week has been working on a couple of charity quilts for guild. I hope to have at least three to take in a few weeks with the quilting completed and the binding attached. Then someone else can hand stitch down the binding.

That’s it from here for now. This weekend should be a yard work weekend. I see some mulch in my future. Next week is also the Mountain QuiltFest in Pigeon Forge. I’ll be heading up there in the middle of the week and I’m looking forward to it. At the end of next week I think we are finally going to head out to look at more new RVs. Not sure what we will find, but it’s fun to look. Maybe we can find something before we head out to camp this year.

I will be linking up with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for Can I Get a Whoop! Whoop! Head over for some great projects.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Time Is Up

This week is the final Project Quilting Challenge (8.6) at Persimon Dreams. The theme is “Time is Up” and I really had no idea what to do for it. The only thing that came to mind was an hourglass block. So, that’s what I decided to do.

I sorted through my shelves and pulled some bright prints that I have no idea what to do with. These are fabrics that I have won at guild meetings, gifts from shop hops, picked up off the free table at guild meetings because I thought I could use them, or they were that last fabric in a bundle of fat quarters that I bought because I wanted to use the other fabrics in the bundle. These are the poor lowly fabrics that I just had no plan for.

Then I saw that I had some yardage of Kona White solid fabric. My Rainbow Stars quilt uses Kona Snow, and I needed more of it. Silly me picked up Kona White at the fabric store, and they are not the same color. Ergh. So, the Kona White has been sitting on my shelves for over a year now. But this week, it is fulfilling its destiny and going into a quilt.

I took the prints and the white fabric and cut them all up into 10 inch squares, then paired prints with white and each set made two humble hourglass blocks. Yesterday I finished up 30 hourglass blocks and put them on the design wall…

My intention was to make a large quilt. This is where I had a problem with my focus. Usually, I need to focus more intently on completing a project. This week I have been focusing too intently. The deadline for the Challenge is this weekend, and I knew I wouldn’t meet the deadline for a completed quilt. The blocks on the design wall would only make a small lap quilt, and I decided I really wanted to make a larger bed size quilt and needed to make more blocks. So, that is was I was planning on doing. Fortunately, Paula on the Challenge Quilts Facebook page suggested I make a pillow for the Challenge with just a few blocks so I could meet the deadline and then continue making the quilt with more blocks. Why didn’t I think of that?? I was too focused on my plan of making the larger quilt for the Challenge, rather than finding a project that was more sensible to make within the time frame. Now that I have my head straightened out, I was able to complete my Challenge project this morning. Yay!

When I put my hourglass blocks on the design wall, there was one fabric that I wasn’t crazy about…this green fabric with the metallic gold leaves…

So, I took both of the blocks from this fabric and made them into a mini pillow…

Here is the other side…

This measures 9 inches square, so it is just for show (or a doll). I think it looks fine on its own, but the fabric just did not play well for me on the design wall with the other blocks.

I will be linking up for the final Project Quilting Challenge of 2017. Head over to see all of the wonderful and creative projects everyone has come up with this week.

It’s About Time

This week is the final Project Quilting Challenge for Season 8. The theme this week is “Time is Up.” I pondered this one for a bit yesterday, but I think I have a plan. Here is all of the fabric I pulled for this project…

I’m not doing anything fancy or creative or elaborate this time. I just plan on making an hourglass block quilt. One goal I have this year is to try to use up my fabric on my shelves, and I think this project could make a dent in it. I’m hoping it will be a stash buster. This will most likely be a full size quilt, so I’m not sure I can complete it in one week, but I’m going to give it a try.

For today, I’ve already made some granola and I want to bake some cookies later. I’m getting a care package made up to ship to my daughter tomorrow. I need to run out this morning and get a few more things to put in the box for her. Once that is all complete, I will start cutting squares for my hourglass blocks. Sounds like a good day to me!

I will be linking up at Love Laugh Quilt for Monday Making. Head over for some great projects.

Red Kitten

I was able to get one red Kitten block completed yesterday for March for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge…

I like the pattern on this fabric and thought it gave a bit of texture to the Kitten. I have some more red fabric selected for another cat for RSC, but I doubt I will get to any sewing this weekend. But next week, I may just set aside time to work on a bunch of blocks and another red Kitten will be on the list.

This weekend will be a house cleaning one, I think. In the meantime, I will be linking up with Angela at So Scrappy for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I am having such a fun time with this Challenge this year!

Whooping It Up

There’s a little excitement here this morning. Yesterday I pieced and quilted the bunnies into a table runner, and I spent some time already this morning and finished hand stitching down the binding. And it’s done!

My husband asked why one of the rabbits was upside down, and I told him that I wanted to be able to see bunnies from both sides of the dining room table. I think it turned out pretty cute, whichever way you look at it. This table runner finished up at 14 by 30 inches, just right for our table.

I used the rabbit block pattern from Elizabeth Hartman’s pattern “Fancy Forest”…

I also used a piece of fabric for the backing that I found on the free table at the quilt guild meeting Tuesday night…

It was the perfect size. I love when that happens.

Today I may try to get another cat finished for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, and then I will probably do some crochet. I need to start some beans in the crock pot at lunch, and we will have some ribs in the instant pot for dinner (along with the rest of our asparagus); so, I have a bit to do today. Our weather will be turning cold and snowy this weekend. Really, it’s about time winter showed up here. We have our errands all done so we can stay home and stay warm this weekend. I hope you all stay warm and safe, wherever you may be!

Rabbit Trails

I have finished the three rabbits for my Easter table runner…

This afternoon I hope to get these into a top and ready to quilt. We’ll see how ambitious I am.  The only other things I’ve been doing this week are some crochet projects, and I will probably do a bit more on that tonight. For now, I’m off to lunch and I’ll get back to the bunnies just as soon as I can!

I will be linking up with Kelly at My Quilt Infatuation for Needle and Thread Thursday. Head over for some wonderful projects.

The Week Ahead

It’s a new week, and there’s plenty to do. Because winter decided to only stick around here for a couple of days this year, we were able to spend time prepping the garden this past weekend. We have basically been in the 50s and 60s since mid-January, with only a few days with highs in the 30s or 40s…very unusual. And this week is all in the mid-60s and rain for a couple of days. We should be able to get more yard work completed this coming weekend. We may even run out to look at new RVs. We are thinking of downsizing from our 5th wheel. We’ll see if we can actually find something that will suit us.

For the week ahead in the sewing room, I will probably spend a lot of time on blocks for various projects. I still haven’t worked on the 365 Challenge for a while, so I would like to do that this week. I also need to get up to speed on the Two-Step Mystery before the next clue comes out.

I have Bee tomorrow, plus a guild meeting, so I won’t be getting much done then, but Wednesday I need to spend some time doing some computer/email clean-up. I will also probably get the Gypsy Wife quilt loaded on the quilting frame so I can get started on that.

My priority today will be to get working on a table runner for Easter. I am using the rabbit block from Elizabeth Hartman’s pattern, Fancy Forest…

I’m making three rabbits, and I expect the table runner to be about 12 by 30 inches when it’s done. I have all of the pieces for the blocks (and the binding) cut out…

So, I am ready to go. I need to run out for some shopping today and do some meal prep, but after that I can build some bunnies!

I will be linking up at Cooking Up Quilts for Main Crush Monday, and Love Laugh Quilt for Monday Making. Head on over for some wonderful projects, and have a great Monday!

Friday Finishes

I just have a couple of finishes this week. I have spent a chunk of this week’s sewing time quilting a couple of charity quilts. I was also able to complete my entry in the Project Quilting Challenge 8.5 this week. Here is my entry –

This is “What the Well-Dressed Man is Wearing…Underneath.” It makes a nice addition to my laundry room!

Yesterday I finished piecing two blocks for the “Have a Jolly Little Christmas” QAL at Sew Fresh Quilts. Here are my poinsettia blocks…

I really like how these blocks turned out. I think they would make a great table runner for the holidays.

I may run out to the library today…we’ll see if I’m in the mood in a couple of hours when it opens…otherwise, I plan to finish quilting a charity quilt, then maybe start another one. If those are pretty quick I will probably do some hand stitching or embroidery. Just another fun day here!

I will be linking up with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for Can I Get a Whoop! Whoop! Stop by and check out all of the great finishes for this week. Have a great weekend!

A Look Back, and a Look Ahead

In February, I was able to get a few projects finished. It’s always fun to finish things! I completed four quilts…

And the Project Quilting Challenge 8.5, What the Well-Dressed Man is Wearing…Underneath

Done is good!

I also worked on some blocks for various projects. I made three Kittens blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge…

I got 6 blocks done for Wonky Halloween 9-Patch…

And I made four blocks for the Have A Jolly Little Christmas QAL at Sew Fresh Quilts…

I also made some progress on my UFO (Get It Done) for February. I’m working on the Sawtooth Cats quilt top…

I’m working on the third paper pieced border. It is just time consuming, but I’m kind of into it now, so I want to keep working on it. I guess that’s a good thing!

I didn’t get any blocks made for the 365 Challenge, but I did finish the January blocks for Quilty365 and I have about 12 blocks done for February. I’m way behind. I have blocks ready to stitch, I just haven’t taken the time to do it. Looks like I will have plenty of hand stitching to do in March!

So, on to March. I have a humongous list of items to work on in March, but I will hit the highlights here…

I will keep working on the Sawtooth Cats. As a matter of fact, finishing and attaching the pieced borders will be my One Monthly Goal for March at Elm Street Quilts.

The March UFO at Patchwork Times is #5, which is my Rainbow Stars quilt.

This is from the 2015 Rainbow Scrap Challenge at So Scrappy. I have the center of the top completed, and as you can see it covers the top of a full-size bed. My goal for this month is to get the borders completed and attached. I have 13 smaller stars completed so far for the borders. They will add an additional 18 inches to the width and length of this quilt top, so it will be pretty big. I’m not entirely sure how many more border stars I need to make, but I will figure it out. I have everything I need to finish this top, so I will work at it in March.

I am planning on doing a bit of quilting on the long arm in March, and  first up will be the neutral Gypsy Wife…

I have ideas for quilting this, so I think I can get it done in a couple of weeks, if I really work at it. This is my last goal for the First Quarter of the 2017 Finish-A-Long, so I would like to get it completed in the early weeks of March.

I also want to get a table runner completed for Easter. I still have six weeks or so before it comes around, so maybe I can complete the top and quilting by the end of next week. I plan on using the Fancy Forest pattern by Elizabeth Hartman…

I’m going to use the rabbit in the pattern for the table runner. I hope it turns out like I envision it.

Along with those, I will continue on with the blocks and challenges that I have been working on this year. I have had a lot of fun with them all, and even though I’m behind on some, they are still fun projects to work on...and it's nice to just work on piecing blocks sometimes.

That’s about it for today. We are in for some storms this afternoon, so as long as the power stays on I will be down in the sewing room busy. I guess if the power goes off I can always do some hand stitching by the light of the window. I will be linking up at the following…
