Happy Leap Year Day!

What will you do with an extra day this year? I hope to spend some of mine in the sewing room. But first I have some errands to run. Isn’t that always the case?

It’s exciting times here…I finished Easy Street so I reached my OMG goal for February! I was #1 at the Goal Setting Party. Here is a photo of it all bound and ready to go…

This is also one of my 1st Quarter Goals for the 2016 Finish Along, so two birds with one stone!

I also worked on a couple of BOMs this past weekend. I was able to make one of the main blocks for the second section of the neutral Gypsy Wife…

This block is a Pershing Block. I never heard that name, but I’ve seen the block before. It took a bit of maneuvering, but I got it done. I’m not certain how happy I am with the block, but I think once it gets put into the quilt it will be fine.

The other BOM I worked on this weekend was some hand stitching on Tuxedo’s Tales…

This is Tuxedo’s head for the January block. I have the white piece for his face and his red scarf all ready to stitch down now, so maybe I can get to that sometime today.

I think that’s all I have to share today. I have chores to do and errands to run today, then maybe I can spend a little time later in the day in the sewing room. If so, I will probably work a little more on the neutral Gypsy Wife. I have the other main block of Section 2 cut out and ready to piece, so that will be first on my agenda.

I hope you have a wonderful Leap Year Day! I will be linking up at the parties below. Head over to see some wonderful projects.

The End of a Long Week

I’ve been able to complete several things this week, even though the past couple of days I’ve been laid up with a migraine. Ergh! At least today I don’t hurt and I can keep my eyes open. I just have a migraine hangover feeling that is an annoyance. At least I’m more bright eyed and bushy tailed today!

I got a couple of things done this month for RSC. First, I was able to put together three brown blocks for the 2015 RSC Sampler quilt…

I am slowly getting to the point of putting this quilt together. I think I may have to make it a One Monthly Goal to get it done.

I also got a purse made for February…

I really like this purse, except the handles. They are just ribbon, but the knot inside the bag takes up so much room I think I am going to make some handles from the dark brown fabric. This was so fun and easy to make; even the grommets weren’t bad once I got it figured out. I spent probably less than two hours total making this. Plus it was fun to make – bonus points!

I will be linking up at So Scrappy for the last brown RSC link-up. Head over for some great projects…and to see what March’s color will be!

I’ve also been working on the binding for Easy Street. Here it is against the border on the front…

And here it is next to the backing fabric…

I really like the gray polka dot binding. I still have about 100 inches to go. Finishing Easy Street is my One Monthly Goal for February and it’s one of my 2016 First Quarter Finish-A-Long projects. Barring anything major happening in the house, I think I can get that last 100 inches done by Monday.

For some miscellaneous items, I was also able to quilt and attach binding to 3 Ronald McDonald House quilts, so those are ready to take to the guild meeting on Tuesday. I was also able to get a couple of blocks cut out for the neutral Gypsy Wife quilt. And, I started the hand applique on the January block of Tuxedo’s Tales. Here’s the pattern…

I did get a couple of other small finishes earlier in the week (yay!). I fused the applique on the little Halloweenie block…

This is a block from a McKenna Ryan BOM that I picked up at the quilt shop last Saturday. I will probably stop by and pick up more throughout the next several months. I won’t be top stitching it until I get them all put together into a quilt top, but step one is done!

I also finished up this little mini snowman quilt…

And here is the backing fabric with hangers…

I made up a bunch of these little snowman blocks last year (or the year before, I can’t remember) and I ended up making some pot holders and a snowman wall hanging…

I still have 4 or 5 snowman blocks left. I may use them to put together a little wall hanging for our small quilt sale at the quilt show.

And that’s about it for this week. I will also be linking up at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for “Can I Get a Whoop! Whoop!” Head over to see all the lovely finishes – and have a great weekend!

Monday Happenings

I was able to get HocusPocusVille done last week…

This is the last of the embroidered blocks. I still have some bead and button embellishments to do on these blocks, but I’m going to wait until I get the top put together before I do that. While I was at the quilt shop on Saturday for a class I picked up a pack of fat eighths (they were 25% off!) for this top. I have decided since I did the embroidery in brown-black and the backgrounds are a tan, I want to do the top in Civil War-type fabrics rather than traditional black/orange Halloween colors. We’ll see how that works out. But for now, HPV is in a holding pattern until sometime next month when I sit down and try to figure out what I’m going to do with it.

Since that embroidery is done, I picked up my Vintage Skate again...

I don’t think I have worked on this for a few months. I have just been working on the boot this week. This will be my evening stitching project for right now.

The other exciting thing I did this past weekend was to get the binding attached to Easy Street. Yay! I’ve hand stitched down one side so far (it’s about 93x93 inches). This is my One Monthly Goal project for February, so I think I can get it done by next Monday, as long as I don’t have too much help

She only thinks she's a good helper stitching binding!

For this week, I have to run some errands this morning, but since I’ve already done the housework for the day, the rest of my day will be spent in the sewing room (I hope!). I will start on this purse for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge…

And if I have time this afternoon I will start on some fabric postcards. I hope to make some for Pet Postcards 2016 and some for our boutique at the guild quilt show this summer.

For the rest of the week I also hope to work on my Gypsy Wife quilts and some more Ronald McDonald House quilts. Plus, I signed up for the Tuxedo Tales Block of the month and I received January’s kit on Saturday…

Too cute. Also while I was at the quilt shop Saturday I found this little cutie…

This is a McKenna Ryan block of the month (I guess – I haven’t really looked into this pattern). They had several of these pre-cut fusible applique kits for the blocks but they are super expensive (but I get 20% off there). I really liked this one so I picked it up. I will be going to the shop at least once a month for a class through October, so I may just pick up one a month…maybe. Or I will just stick with this one Halloweenie. If I get more I may just stop at probably 4 total and make a wall hanging. So if I have time, I may at least get this one fused.

That’s about it for the week. This Sunday afternoon is our RMH Sew-In so I have that to look forward to. In the meantime I will be linking up at Super Mom – No Cape for the Stitchery Party and at What a Hoot Quilts for BOMs Away. I hope you stop by to see the wonderful projects there.

Have a great week!

Friday Finishes

It has been a pretty quiet week in the sewing room this past week. I have spent a lot of time doing computer work for our guild quilt show, so that cuts in to my sewing room time. However, I think I am done for a couple of months with the show, so I won’t need to worry about that for a while.

I also was able to spend some time in the sewing room burying threads and fixing some skipped stitches on Easy Street, along with some project planning. Unfortunately, there is not much to show for those things. I did get a couple of things done since last Friday. First, I made 3 small brown stars for the 2015 RSC Sawtooth Star Sampler quilt…

And the big finish…HocusPocusVille blocks are done!

This is the final one (12 in all). I plan on adding some beads and buttons, so there are a few places that aren’t stitched yet, but I don’t think I am going to add those embellishments until I have the top put together. I am putting HPV away for now, but I have a note on my calendar for later in March to start planning out the quilt top. I’m looking forward to that!

Tomorrow is my second Gypsy Wife class. I have Section 1 done for both colorways that I’m making…

I hope to get the next section done in the next couple of weeks. I have also cut some more of the background strips for the remaining sections of the batik GW, so I will try to finish that cutting in March.

In the meantime, I will be linking up at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? Head over for some great projects.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge for February

Yesterday I finally got out some fabric to work on my RSC projects. I was able to pull some fabric for some small stars for the borders of the 2015 RSC Sawtooth Star Sampler quilt. I also cut and pieced three small brown stars…

I pulled fabric for a purse and a clutch in my pursuit of making totes/bags/purses/etc. each month for RSC. I plan on using this fabric for a clutch purse…

I found this fabric last month on the free table at the quilt guild meeting and thought I could use it for something J.

I also plan on making this purse…

I won this pattern last year as a door prize. I have all of the materials for it and I plan on using these two fabrics…

The dark brown is from the free table also. Gotta love the free table!

So that’s about it for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this week. I hope to get working on the purse and clutch next week. Hopefully I will have something to show then. In the meantime, I will be linking up at So Scrappy for the February Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Head over for some lovely projects.

Friday Finishes

I was able to finish up the quilting on Easy Street this week.

I still need to bury threads and fix a couple of spots where the machine skipped a few stitches, but I’m excited to have it to this point! I hope to get that done this weekend and attach a binding. Then it will just be some hand stitching to finish this off. At 3+ years in the making, this is one of my youngest UFOs, but it’s good to be close to finishing.

I did get some work done this week on a couple of charity quilts. Yesterday I was able to quilt and attach the binding to a Ronald McDonald House quilt. I used this cute ladybug fabric for the binding…

I was also able to get the borders added to a RMH quilt top and hope to get that quilted next week.

The only other project I worked on this week was HocusPocusVille. I don’t have any photos of it at this point, but I only have a small bit left to do on this block. I’m sure I will take some time later today to work on it, so I hope to finish it really soon.

Aside from HPV, I will probably spend my sewing time today working on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I hope to get some small stars made for the 2015 Sampler Quilt, and I want to start on my brown purse for February. I have a pattern and all the materials gathered for it, so I want to get a start on it today.

I will be linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict for Can I Get a Whoop! Whoop! link-up party.

Easy Street is Quilted!

I’ve finished quilting Easy Street! Woo hoo! It has been waiting nearly 2 years to get quilted, but it’s done now.

Here are a couple of close ups of the quilting…

I don’t know how well you can see it, but I just did a medium size meandering stitch all over. I had some problems at times with some skipped stitches on my machine, so I will fix those places on the quilt. I also still need to bury the threads as well. All in all, I think my Juki and I got along quite well J

Here is the back of the quilt…

It hides the imperfections in the quilting!

On Wednesday I will get this trimmed down and get the threads taken care of. Then it will be ready for the binding. I will be using this fabric…

This fabric appears in the little four-patch units in the quilt. I really like the dots on it.

Hopefully by the weekend I will be able to have the binding attached and be ready to hand stitch this down. Finishing Easy Street was my One Monthly Goal for February, so I’m getting closer to a finish!

A New Week

My Design Wall is pretty much the same…

I have my Gypsy Wife blocks up there along with a top for a charity quilt. I hope to get the charity quilt quilted soon and this is the easiest way to keep from having to press it again!

I also got a little farther along on HocusPocusVille…

I plan to embellish these HPV blocks with beads and buttons, so some things have not been embroidered.

For this week, I have a few projects I want to get accomplished. First, I want to finish quilting East Street…

I’ve started quilting it. As a matter of fact, what you see in the photo has been quilted and it’s time to roll it up some more. I’m using a variegated gray thread for the top and a solid gray for the bobbin thread…

So far it’s looking fine. I’m just doing a medium-ish meandering stipple, so it is going pretty well.

There are a few more things I want to get done this week:

Finish the current (and last!) HPV block

Once the quilting is done I would like to get the binding attached to Easy Street

Quilt and bind the Ronald McDonald House quilt on my design wall

Cut more strips for the background of the Gypsy Wife quilts

That’s not too much. If the weather cooperates tomorrow and it doesn’t snow here, I may head over to our quilt guild Tuesday Bee. I also have some more computer work for the guild Quilt Show to do this week. And finally, my hubby will probably take a half day off Friday so we can go out to lunch and do our early voting.

For today, I’ve already made English muffins, I’ve exercised and showered, and I have laundry going. I will head downstairs and see how far I can get on quilting Easy Street today. Hopefully it will be done soon! In the meantime, I will be linking up at Patchwork Times for Design Wall Monday and at Super Mom – No Cape for the Monday Stitchery link-up. Head over for some wonderful projects.

Slow (Super Bowl) Sunday Stitching

I will be stitching away this evening during the Super Bowl. I am on the last HocusPocusVille block, and this is how far I’ve taken it so far..

I had hoped to get it done by this weekend, but that’s not going to happen. Maybe by next Sunday.

I will be linking up at Kathy’s Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching. Hope you stop by to see what everyone else is working on.

Friday Finishes

I got a few things finished since last Friday. I’m excited that I finished another HocusPocusVille block and I am now working on the LAST ONE! Here is the most recent finish…

I also finished up Section 1 for the neutral colorway of the Gypsy Wife BOM I’m working on…

I really like this colorway. I’ve also been cutting background strips for the batik GW, and once those are done I will use what’s left for a border for the Log Cabin Leaves quilt.

I also put together some blocks to make a top for a Ronald McDonald House quilt…

Nice and purple! I have some backing to use on this so I hope to get this one quilted by the end of the month.

Other than those things, this past week I repaired and patched an old quilt that was falling apart, and I worked some more on the Quilt Show for our Guild. I hope to make headway on the HPV block this weekend. I’ll probably work on it during the Super Bowl…I still don’t know who to root for. I’ve been a Broncos fan since John Elway played and we’re Peyton Manning fans, but my daughter went to Auburn when Cam Newton was there and won the national championship. I know she is rooting for Cam…I guess I can’t lose either way J

Today I will head downstairs and do do some quilting on Easy Street. In the meantime, I will be linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict for Can I Get a Whoop! Whoop! – Friday Finishes!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

One Month Down

We made it through the first month of January. I still have a few Christmas things to put away. But I just claim they are “winter-y” and go with it.

I completed quite a few things in January. First up, on my Design Wall for this week are my Gypsy Wife Section 1 blocks in both colorways – neutral/tans and batiks…

I am so happy with how they turned out and I am still enjoying working on them. My next class on this BOM is in about three weeks, so I will spend some time between now and then cutting more of the background strips. I already have some cut for a couple more sections. I may even work ahead and get some of the strips pieced together. Some of the later sections are a bit more involved, so it might be nice to have some of the background strips already done.

I also completed THREE HocusPocusVille blocks in January. Yay me!

I have the final one hooped up and I started on it over the weekend. I think I may work at this one this week and see if I can’t finish it by the upcoming weekend.

The biggie that I finished in January is the very old Joann’s Sampler quilt.

This was my OMG-It’s Finished! project for January. I am so glad this is out of a drawer and ready to be used.

This blue tote…

was my project for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for January. I finished that a couple of weeks ago and I’m really happy how it turned out.

A few other little items I did in January…

I made a swap block for our February quilt guild meeting tomorrow night…

I made the background squares for Bird Dance…

And I quilted a couple of charity quilts. Here's the label on one of them...

So, looking ahead to February…I have a few things I would like to accomplish. First, for my OMG-It’s Finished! goal for February I would like to complete (as in quilt, bind and label) my Easy Street quilt…

As you can see it is loaded onto the long arm. I think I can get the quilting done next week (I hope!), then work on the binding the rest of the month. This quilt was finished (I think) a couple of years ago, so it will be nice to get it done. This will be a gift so I hope it turns out nice!

I also want to finish the last HPV block in February. Here it is hooped up…

Does anyone need a half-price cape? I really don’t think I’m going to be able to contain myself and hold off on starting the quilt top on this one until the fall. I’m sure I will head out to the quilt store sometime in the next couple of months to get some fabric to start on the top!

I also hope to get borders put on the Log Cabin Leaves top…

Once I get the background strips cut for the batik Gypsy Wife, I’ll know what I have left over to make a border for LCL. I’m using brown and green batiks for both, but I want GW to have all its parts and pieces before using them on another project.

I also plan on quilting a couple of charity quilts and getting borders attached; plus, once the HPV block is done, I will devote my hand working time to the Christmas mini from Temecula Quilt Co…

As you can see I opted to not use Christmas colors. I am hand piecing this top, so I would like to get the top put together by the end of February. It’s very small…I think mine will finish about 12 x 18, maybe a little bigger. So I’m hoping it won’t take too long.

So that’s about it. I think I have plenty to keep busy during a (hopefully) cold February.

I will be linking up at:

Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times
Main Crush Monday at Cooking Up Quilts
The Stitchery Party at Super Mom – No Cape
BOMs Away at What a Hoot Quilts
OneMonthly Goal at Red Letter Quilts

I hope you have a wonderful week, and head on over to see all of the great projects at the link-up parties.
